Referrals

📅 You do not need a referral to see Kerryn, however, if you wish to claim through Medicare and obtain a rebate, you will need to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan or an Eating Disorder Plan which needs to be completed by your General Practitioner.  This cannot be done retrospectively.  Please obtain the Medicare Plan before your first appointment to make sure you do not miss out on obtaining the rebate.

Please send referrals to diaitapsychology@outlook.com

Frequently Asked Questions ❓

📌 1. Do you offer telehealth services Australia-wide?

Yes. All sessions at Diaita Psychology are provided online via secure video. Families from any part of Australia—urban, regional or remote—can access support without needing to travel.

📌 2. What kinds of concerns do you support?

I work with children, adolescents, and families experiencing:

  • Anxiety and mood challenges

  • Fussy eating, ARFID, and eating disorders

  • ADHD and autism

  • Parent–child relationship difficulties

  • School or behavioural challenges

  • Body image and food-related concerns

📌 3. Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

No referral is needed to begin. However, if you'd like to access Medicare rebates, your child will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan.  If your young person has a diagnosed eating disorder or an

emerging eating disorder, please ask your GP if you are eligible for an Eating Disorder Care Plan.

Please specify to your GP to refer to Diaita Psychology for 40 medicare-subsidised psychological therapy sessions.  Although Kerryn is a Dietitian, she is no longer an Accredited Practising Dietitian

but continues to be a Member of the Dietitians Association of Australia.

Participants of the NDIS, need approval from their Plan Manager.

📌 4. Can I use Medicare to help cover the cost?

Yes. With a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan or Eating Disorder Care Plan and referral, Medicare rebates are available for eligible psychological sessions. You may also be able to claim via private health insurance or NDIS (self- or plan-managed).

📌 5. How does a psychologist–dietitian approach differ?

As a registered psychologist and dietitian, I offer a unique integrative approach that considers both emotional wellbeing and food/nutritional needs. This is especially helpful for eating disorders, ARFID, anxiety, and neurodiversity-related feeding issues and also for young people with diabetes or gastrointestinal tract disorders such as Inflammatory bowel disease.

📌 6. How do telehealth sessions work with children or teens?

Sessions are conducted via a secure video platform and adapted to your child’s age and needs. I work closely with parents—either in joint sessions or separately—to support regulation, behaviour, eating patterns, or emotional health.

📌 7. Do you offer family-based therapy (FBT)?

Yes. Family-based treatment is available for eating disorders like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and ARFID. I also support parents and carers as active participants in the recovery process for all mental health diagnoses, all via telehealth.

📌 8. What ages do you work with?

I work with children (5+), adolescents, and young adults. Parental involvement is often encouraged, especially for younger children or family-based approaches.

📌 9. What’s the process to get started?

You can contact me via the website to book a discovery call to see if Kerryn is the right fit for you or request an intake form. After gathering some background information, we’ll arrange your child’s first session and determine the best therapeutic pathway.

📌 10. Can you help if my child is already seeing another therapist or dietitian?

Yes. I’m happy to collaborate with other professionals to ensure cohesive and respectful care. Please let me know during intake so we can tailor support accordingly and gain consent for information to be shared amongst your team.
